So, the thing is, most of the stuff that I knit and craft are gifts for other people...people that might be reading my blog. So I rarely post about the stuff I'm making. For example, all weekend I worked on making this bracelet for my Secret Pal...which might seem odd since SP is a knitting thing, but this was a lot faster to make. After all, I am still knitting Christmas gifts for 2 years ago!
So the bracelet, I finished it, and it was a pain in the ass. It wasn't difficult but adding those damned beads to the outside edge were NOT fun!
Oh, and I decided to go to some LYS's* (that's plural) on Saturday. But to appreciate this you need the entire story.
So, I got a gift certificate a couple months ago to go to Mario Badescu spa...which I HIGHLY recommend (they are famous for their facials but I can't go to a spa and NOT get a massage)! I had to book it way in advance, so yesterday was THE day. I got the BEST facial and massage I've ever had ever ever. The massage was odd, but effective. She used her knees. Yeah. Odd, right? And I got suckered into about 100 bucks of products. But I digress.
Since I was in NYC anyway, I decided it was a good time to visit the yarn stores I've heard so much about but have never been to. I walked around, went to a couple stores, and didn't buy a damned thing. So, it was time to head home.
So, I started walking in the general direction I THOUGHT I needed to go to get home. So, long story short, I got LOST. Walking around for hours lost. And All of a sudden I was surrounded by over 100 fire- and policemen wandering around. Talk about eye candy! So I thought, well I'll ask these guys where I need to go. As I started walking towards the eye candy, I realized that I was about to cross police lines. But I didn't think anything about it. So I ask like 3 different people how to get where I need to go, and they all send me in different directions. OK, so keep in mind that I hadn't even yet questioned why so many uniformed men were around. I just accepted it as part of New York.
So finally, I realize no one is sending me in the right direction and I stop walking. I turn around and realize THAT A BUILDING HAD COLLAPSED! I mean, seriously, at one point I was annoyed cause there was police tape up blocking the sidewalk. Come on Danielle, get your head out of your ass! The police tape was up because A BUILDING HAD COLLAPSED!!! It must have happened JUST before I got there. Such a dumbass.
What's really strange is that I can't find any details about in online. I guess that's just part of normal life in New York? Kind of like the gun shots I heard a couple weeks ago. That just happens every day in the ghetto.
*By the way, I didn't buy anything at the LYS's. Nothing. However, I did discover that I have a couple of favorite yarns. (See Robin!) I love Cascade 220 because it's so easy to knit with...it seems to just melt through my hands like buttah. And it felts SO well! I've made Ruffles from Scarf Style with it, I'm making a couple Christmas gifts with it now (yeah...the ones that I should've done 2 years ago) and I've made the Buttonhole bag with it.
Yarns that I don't like...anything that squeeks when you knit with it. I can't think of specific yarns though...I guess acrylic in general.
I found some great yarn at Purl yesterday, but it was $40 a skein! Yowzers! But man did that silk feel nice! Ah, maybe someday...when I become a rich soccer mom. :)
